Micah 6:8 "What does the Lord Require?"
What does God want from us? When we do wrong, how do we make it right? God has done so much for us, and how can we possibly ever repay God? How do we worship God? These are the questions being asked before Micah 6:8. And the answer is simple - do justice, love kindness (otherwise translated “mercy,”) and walk humbly with God. This is supposed to be our way of life. This is a passage you will come back to all your life, in daily living and at turning points. Write this one on your family’s heart!
Do It
Find a way that your family can do justice and show mercy. If possible, do something that is ongoing, a way of “walking humbly with God.” Here are some ideas to get you started:
1. Give of your abundance: Regularly (each day or week), each person in the family chooses one thing they don’t need, and donate the items.
2. Grow extra produce in your garden to donate to your local food pantry or to put out in a public place with a “free” sign on it.
3. Put up a “Belong Box,” which looks something like this. You simply stock it with nonperishable food and other necessities, with a sign encouraging people to take what they need.
4. Put up a community library - a similar idea to the Belong Box, but with books instead, which children in the community can borrow. Choose books that encourage community and show God’s love.
5. Sponsor a child in need as a family.
6. If your children are old enough, find a volunteer opportunity in your community that you can do as a family on a regular basis.

Pray It
God, open our eyes to the ways that we can join you in your work of justice and kindness. Help us to walk with you.
