god's story, god's song
Building Faith Community,
We find ourselves in strange times, and it is hard to know what the next year holds. We don't know how much we will worship and grow and learn in person with communities of faith, and how much we will be together virtually. Consistency is going to be hard to come by. That is why we (Daniel and Talashia) decided to create a year-long, all-age, home-based resource for our congregation. It is simple and flexible enough to be done at home around a table, in a children's classroom, in an adult small group, and many other settings. The series is rooted in scripture and takes participants through the overarching story of the Bible. We got our friend Jonathan Reuel (best known for his song "Water Fall") on board to write microsongs. So for 52 weeks, participants have a story to read, prompts for exploration of the story, and a short song about the story. These short songs build on one another, so at the end of the year, we'll get to sing a great big story of the Bible. If begun now, one story per week will keep the series matched up with the church year, but there are simple ways to "catch up" if people start later and want to still be reading about Jesus' birth during Christmas week.
As we developed this, we realized that we weren't going to be the only church who would find this useful. So we have made it available to the public, hosted on a website (https://www.godsstorygodssong.com/). Unlike Building Faith, there is a small subscription fee so that we can pay royalties for the music and cover the administrative costs of making it available. Because the purpose of this series matches so closely with the mission of Building Faith, we want to make sure you all are aware of the resource! We hope it can help make ministry in church and at home a little easier and meaningful in the year to come.
In a time of great disruption, we live in confidence that God sticks with us. The Holy Spirit, our great disrupter and comforter, is active! God be with you as you and the little ones in your life grow in faith.
