Our shepherd
God is our shepherd – what does that mean? God watches over us and provides for our needs, knowing when we need to sleep, when we need to eat, when we need comfort. That doesn’t mean we get everything we want – but it does mean that we’re never alone, that God is always there to help us.

Psalm 23
1 The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures;
he leads me beside still waters;
3 he restores my soul,
He leads me in right paths
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
I fear no evil;
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff--
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
my whole life long. - NRSV

Do It
Think back to times that your family has been in need and God has provided for your needs. Talk about those times and look back at pictures if you have them. Eat a simple and special meal together, reading the psalm and thanking God for caring for us (in our family, this would mean a meal of bread, cheese and grapes, eaten by candlelight).

Pray It
God, thank you for being a good shepherd who knows what we need. Thank you for working through others to give us what we need. Thank you for our food, for our home, for the love we have for each other. Help us to share that love with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
