God's Love is for Everybody
Holy Week and Easter are rich with opportunities for faith formation, and for more ideas on ways to experience them with your family, see Holy Week Activities. A concept of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection that we don’t always talk about is the way God’s love for all the world was made incarnate. Worship of Yahweh had become something exclusive, something that was only for people born into the faith. But Jesus made it clear, through the way he lived, died and rose again, that all are welcomed into God’s kingdom.
Read It
Galatians 3:27-29
27 As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to the promise. |
Do It
Make a collage together, and title it “God’s Love is for Everybody.” Find some old magazines (National Geographic is great for this) at home or at a thrift store, and go through them and cut out pictures of people. Make sure the pictures are diverse - in ethnicity, in lifestyle, in economic status. If you can’t find enough in a magazine, print some from the internet. Paste them into a collage together and hang it on your wall for the month as a reminder of God’s inclusive love.
Pray It
God, sometimes we forget that you came to earth, lived, died, and rose again for everyone, not just for us or for the people in our church. Thank you for showing us the way of love. Help us share your love with everyone, all around the world. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
Sing It
This year’s faith practices go with songs from the CD “New World Coming,” by Bryan Moyer Suderman. They work well on their own, but if you want a bonus for your family’s experience, buy a CD to listen to for the year.
