BUILDING FAITH 2026: GOD STICKS WITH US!

All of us, regardless of age, are invited to take our place in God’s big story. That big story begins with the biblical story, so this year, we invite your family on a year-long journey into the narrative of the Bible. We can tell this story through many lenses, and this year, we’re choosing the lens of:
“The people of God miss the mark…and God sticks with the people.”

We will look at the story chronologically this year, and your household will grow most if you approach this year’s practices in a way that has some continuity. That can happen in lots of ways - here are a few of our ideas. Choose one idea to try, and if it’s not working for you, change course or create your own riff on the idea.
  • Continuity of Activity: Each month, there will be a couple of suggestions of activities. Most of these activities will have a product, like a video or artwork. Save the products of your activities from month to month, stringing them together so that at the end of the year, you have a collection of creations that you can use to tell the story.
  • Month-long exploration: Look at the month’s central story weekly in your household. Try reading it from different story Bibles, looking at artists’ interpretations of it, watching dramatic depictions of it, or listening to music inspired by it. This weekly approach will help you really live with the story - and will write the story on your children’s hearts.
  • Read more of the story: Each month’s central story is part of a bigger theme. So each month, we’ll suggest some additional scripture passages. If you have a weekly family practice, you could look at these other passages to get a fuller picture of God’s story.
  • Tell the story: Each month, we’ll give you a “distilled to its essence” sentence that helps you tell the story. Repeat that sentence together regularly (before bed, at the end of a meal, at the beginning of the day…), adding on your new sentence each month, and by the end of the year you’ll be able to tell the big story of God’s people together.

A good story Bible is always a great investment, and will especially be helpful this year. A few recommendations of good story Bibles:
  • Resplandece, our favorite story Bible in Spanish (this is the Spanish version of Shine On), from MennoMedia
  • The Peace Table, the newest story Bible offering from MennoMedia
  • Shine On, from MennoMedia
  • The Book of Belonging
  • God’s Stories as Told by God’s Children

Note: Our intention in telling this story is to be more descriptive than prescriptive. In other words, we won’t try to get a “takeaway” or lesson from each story. We will do our best to let the story be the story and to encourage children to be curious about it.

January: God created, and it was good
